I am downsizing & don't have enough room for all my inherited antiques. This antique, carved soapstone toothpick holder was part of my parents antique collection. I am unable to give you much history. My parents were Oriental Antique dealers & this was purchased by them sometime in the 60's.
It is a Chinese piece. Scratched on the bottom is China. Probably scratched by my parents to make sure I would know what was Chinese from Japanese.
There are 4 carved monkeys on the doubled toothpick holder. The tops are chipped. As soapstone is so soft, there are scratches as well.
Still, all in all, a very collectible piece of soapstone.
It measures approx. 2-1/2" tall x 3-3/4" long.
