Else Berntsen Hughes/ Studio Else & Paul Sterling Silver Textured Weave Ring, Adjustable Size O–P

A beautiful Norwegian modernist sterling silver ring with a tactile textured “weave” surface and a slightly adjustable split shank. The ring is stamped NORWAY 925 and carries an “H” maker’s mark associated in the trade with Berntsen Hughes / Studio Else & Paul. Studio Else & Paul was founded in 1959 by Norwegian metal artist Else Berntsen Hughes (1938–2002) and goldsmith Paul C. Hughes (1934–1981). They became known for sculptural, cast jewellery and textured surface treatments that helped define Norway’s post-war modernist studio jewellery movement and gained international attention from the early 1960s onwards. Paul Hughes died in 1981 and Else continued working afterwards.
